Employers often attempt to offer the very best possible health insurance to their employees, if not for genuine concern for the employees’ well being than at the very least to attract and retain quality people. Some employees may not understand what a co-pay is and may wind up at a doctor visit, confused as to why they need to pay some money when they thought the insurance would cover it. Employees can also get themselves into a bit of financial trouble if they don’t fully understand what sort of medical procedures are covered and which are not; a trip to the emergency room will be even more devastating if an employee finds out at that time that his or her insurance does not cover emergency care. Although the burden of education should in theory rest on the employees it is best if the employer attempts to make sure that all the employees understand the full details of the insurance coverage. As a plus for employers, this will likely avoid any confused and irate employees marching into the office demanding to speak to human resources about their health insurance coverage. Happy employees, after all, are productive employees, and it’s easier to be happy when good health care is in place.
