Private and Group Plans of Unicare Texas

IHealth insurance in the United States is loosely categorized as either private (which is not government funded) or else government sponsored. Unicare Texas makes private insurance available to its insured members and it does so at rates that most people, even of a modest income can afford. Private health insurance by Unicare Texas can either come in the form of a group plan that is sponsored by an employer or Unicare Texas can be obtained by an individual through an insurance company. A group plan allows for the inclusion of not just the person who takes out the policy but also the person’s spouse and children whereas an individual is usually only for an individual.

Group plans through Unicare Texas are referred to as “employment based plans” whereas the individual plans are usually called “direct-purchase plans.” Employment based plans can only come by way of one’s employer or one’s spouse’s employer although there are some associations and organizations that offer group plans. Some unions do as well. When starting a new job employees are usually made aware of whether there is a Unicare Texas group plan in place for healthcare or not.

An individual Unicare Texas plan is known as a “direct-purchase plan” and this means that an individual must go outside of his workplace to seek out health insurance on an individual basis. Unicare Texas offers a variety of individual plans to suit many budgets. It is always wise to shop around before you decide on what plan you want to go with.

If you work for a company that offers a group health plan then it is in your best interests to sign up for it. This will be most beneficial to both yourself and your loved ones when you are facing a health emergency. Group plans tend to cover more bases of healthcare and they also tend to be more cost effective than individual plans. If you are self-employed an individual plan might be too costly for you to afford so you should look into associations or organizations such as small-business associations that cater to the needs of people who work for themselves.

If the group and the individual plans of Unicare Texas are not cost effective to you or if you do not qualify for either then the other option is to look at health insurance that is funded by the government. Government health policies can be funded at either a federal, state or municipal level. Sometimes they are federally funded but are state run. The two most common are Medicare and Medicaid. There is also one known as the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (or abbreviated to SCHIP) that takes care of the healthcare needs of children from income families whose parents for whatever reason are not eligible for Medicaid.
